So I go ahead and make up my own meanings\u2014and I like them just fine.I like to think that Master Huineng, D\u014dgen, Ikky\u016b, and Ry\u014dkan would nod gently and say, \u201cThat’s fine. That’s fine. Let it be, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today’s Zen word is “\u65e5\u3005\u662f\u597d\u65e5 Hibikorek\u014djitsu” It means ” Depending on your attitude, every day can be a good day”<\/p>\n\n\n

The high priest Yunmon asks, “Tell me one sentence about what will happen in the future.”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a story about the Zen master Yunmon.
He once posed a question to his students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not asking about the past,\u201d he said.
\u201cBut what about the future? Say one thing about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The room went still. No one dared to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Yunmon answered for them:
\u201cEvery day is a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students stirred, unsure of what to make of it.
The future? Who can possibly know what it holds?
Misfortune might be just around the corner.
Heartbreak could come tomorrow.
Even today, out in the world, people are struggling.
In stories and on screen, heroes are always suffering.
Even the soldiers in Kingdom<\/em> fall like ants.
So how could the master say with such certainty that every day is a good one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students didn\u2019t understand.
And maybe they weren\u2019t meant to\u2014yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yunmon simply smiled at their puzzled faces.
He saw the world through a different lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truth is: Some days are sunny. Some are not.
You can\u2019t change the weather, even if you know it\u2019s coming.
What you can<\/em> change is how you meet it.
And that, Yunmon was trying to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n

Every day is a good day.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most people prefer sunshine.
But not everyone.

He even liked the wind\u2014how it plays with the green leaves of spring, or brushes across autumn fields.

But strangely, thinking this way makes the heart feel lighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every day is a good day.
